It is our distinct honor to welcome the world's leading minds in equine science to Tokyo, a city where vibrant energy and rich tradition converge. On behalf of the organizers, I extend my heartfelt welcome to all participants of the 12th International Conference on Equine Exercise Physiology (ICEEP 12).
Held once every four years, ICEEP is the premier academic conference in equine exercise science, bringing together the world's top researchers. A quarter of a century has passed since we co-hosted the 5th conference in Utsunomiya in 1998. This long-standing, deep, and unwavering bond with ICEEP is a source of great pride for us.
The hosting of this conference in Japan has been made possible through a strong partnership between the Japanese Society of Equine Science (JSES), a leader in the pursuit of knowledge in equine science in Japan, and the Japan Racing Association (JRA), which spearheads the development of the horse racing industry and its contribution to society.
With the remarkable success of Japanese horses in international races in recent years and the thrilling competitions of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games still fresh in our memories, Japanese horsemanship and science are now under a brighter spotlight than ever before. It is our greatest pleasure to meet all of you in Tokyo at this opportune moment.
We are confident that this conference will be more than just a forum for research presentations; it will become a "crossroads of knowledge" where new ideas intersect, and a "catalyst" for creating international collaborations that will shape the future. Furthermore, it is our sincere hope that it will serve as a springboard for the next generation of young researchers to make remarkable leaps forward.
We look forward to your active discussions opening new horizons in equine science. In addition, in the moments between satisfying your intellectual curiosity, we hope you will experience the profound charm this city of Tokyo has to offer and create unforgettable memories.

未来を拓く知の交差点へようこそ
活気と伝統が融合する都市、東京へ、世界中の馬科学の叡智をお迎えできることを大変光栄に思います。第12回馬の運動生理学に関する国際会議（ICEEP 12）にご参加の皆様を、主催者を代表して心より歓迎申し上げます。
4年に一度、世界のトップランナーが一堂に会するICEEPは、馬の運動科学における最高峰の学術会議です。我々が1998年に宇都宮で第5回大会を共催してから、実に四半世紀の時が流れました。この長きにわたるICEEPとの深く、揺るぎない絆は、私たちの大きな誇りです。
本会議は、日本の馬科学における知の探求をリードする日本ウマ科学会（JSES）と、競馬界の発展と社会貢献を牽引する日本中央競馬会（JRA）との強力なパートナーシップによって開催が実現しました。
近年、国際レースで目覚ましい成功を収める日本馬、そして記憶に新しい東京2020オリンピック・パラリンピックでの熱戦。今、日本のホースマンシップと科学に、かつてないほどの熱い視線が注がれています。この絶好の機会に、皆様と東京で会えることに大きな喜びを感じています。
本会議が、単なる研究発表の場に留まらず、新たな着想が交差する「知の交差点」となり、未来を切り拓く国際的な協力関係を生み出す「触媒」となることを確信しております。そして、次代を担う若き研究者たちにとって、大きな飛躍のきっかけとなることを願ってやみません。
